IM Dinesh Sharma wins the Ananda Thirtha Memorial Rapid

The Late Sri. Prof. S. K. Ananda Thirtha Memorial All India FIDE Rapid Rating Chess Tournament was held in the historic city of Mysuru, Karnataka on the 1st and the 2nd of July, 2017. It was a strong rapid event with three IMs and three FMs taking part. In the Open section, IM Dinesh Sharma from Uttar Pradesh won with half a point lead over nearest of his rivals. Karthik Venkatraman finished second and Ram.S. Krishnan third. A report sent to us by the organizer of the event C.K. Muralidharan.

IM Dinesh Sharma from Uttar Pradesh won the title prize in the Open section of the Late Sri. Prof. S. K. Ananda Thirtha Memorial All India FIDE Rapid Rating Chess Tournament, conducted by Mysore District Chess Association (MDCA) at the Hoysala Karnataka Sangha auditorium, Mysuru on 1st & 2nd July 2017. Scoring 8.0/9, he won with a clear point ahead of the rest of the field. In his final round game, Sharma beat K.Senthil Maran of Tamil Nadu on the top board to seal title prize.

IM Sharma received the winner’s trophy and cash prize from Dr.P.Krishniah, In-charge Director, Dept. of Physical Education, University of Mysore. With this win, he took home a cash prize of Rs.20,000/- and a trophy. Four players FM Karthik Venkataraman (AP), Ram S Krishnan (TN), FM Dutta Joydeep (WB) and Saravana Krishnan P (TN) tied for the second place with 7.5 points each but were assigned second to fifth places based on their tiebreak score. They also took home cash prizes of 15,000/-, 10,000/-, 8,000/- and 6000/- along with a trophy. Trophies for the first five places were given for U-15, U-13, U-11, U-9 (boys & girls).
