Devansh wins Khelo Chess India Classical FIDE Rating, Ahilan finished runner-up

The second edition of the Khelo Chess India FIDE Rating tournament, organized by ChessBase India, was successfully held in recent days at SAGE International School in Bhopal. Conducted from March 23 to March 31, the title was won by Devansh Singh, who scored 9 out of 9. Ahilan Roy from Chhattisgarh secured second place with 7.5 points, while Divyanshu Gupta finished third with 7 points and the best tiebreak score.

With the objective of promoting classical chess, this nine-day event was also broadcast live with the support of DGT. This was the 80th event of the Khelo Chess India initiative, and it is expected that this effort will complete 100 events this year. In this tournament, DGT, IVEI, and SAGE International School were our main partners.

Devansh scored 100% and won Khelo Chess India Classical

Ahilan made a comeback after losing the first round

Khelo Chess India was organized with the aim of taking chess to as many people as possible, and this journey which started in January 2023 has reached 82 events at the time of writing this article. This time it was the turn of a classical event, the objective was to organize such an event where there is one round per day and players get equal opportunity to rest and prepare, and we are happy that we have successfully completed it.

In Bhopal, the nine-day Khelo Chess India International FIDE Rating chess tournament organized by ChessBase India and recognized by the World Chess Federation and All India Chess Federation was won by Devansh Singh from Madhya Pradesh by winning all nine rounds. Devansh added 47 rating points while performing at a rating level of 2417.

Ahilan Roy from Chhattisgarh secured second place with 7.5 points, and with 7 points based on better tiebreak, Divyanshu Singh from Madhya Pradesh finished third, while on 7 points based on tiebreak, Siddharth Upadhyay from Madhya Pradesh finished fourth. Devansh was awarded ₹35,000, Ahilan ₹20,000, Divyanshu ₹15,000 and Siddharth ₹10,000 as prize money.

This tournament was organized on the international standard basis of one round per day where every player gets sufficient rest to play each game and enough opportunity to analyze their game.

A total of 122 players from across the country participated in it.

What happened in the final round?

In the final round, Devansh defeated Dr. Chitransh with the black pieces on the top board and completed the task of scoring 9 out of 9

On the second board, Ahilan, who had lost the first round, made a great comeback and secured second place by registering his seventh win, he defeated Shahid Noor in the last round

On the third board, Siddharth Upadhyay drew with Riyansh

Among other players, with 6.5 points, Bishwajeet Das from WB , Shahid Noor from Madhya Pradesh, Chitransh Shrivastava, Avish Vishal Shinde, Rajendra Singh and Darshil Iyer finished from fifth to tenth place respectively, a total of ₹1.5 lakh in prizes were given in the tournament.

A special moment was when a chessboard and two photographs signed by World Champion D Gukesh and World Rapid Champion Koneru Humpy were given to talented players.

Best Under-10 player Medant Jain from Bhopal was presented a chessboard signed by World Champion Gukesh by Woman International Master Angela.
