COB Revival - Prakhar beats Joel in a Roller Coaster Final
The COB Revival concluded in fitting fashion with a final that had everything- sharp tactics, dramatic momentum swings, missed opportunities, horrific blunders, and nerves of steel under pressure. After a fiercely contested battle against Joel Dsouza, it was Prakhar Gupta who emerged victorious, overcoming multiple twists and turns in a true roller-coaster encounter. From the round-robin stage to the knockout rounds, the event delivered nonstop entertainment, and the championship clash proved to be the perfect finale as Prakhar crowned himself the COB Revival Champion.
Game - 1: Joel vs. Prakhar

The game started off with an unusual e4 from Joel who usually loves to start with d4. Prakhar responded back with e5 instead of c6 which was his natural choice over the last few months. The stage was perfectly set as both players took each other out of prep very early in the game. But Joel blundered a full queen on move 15 and the moment Prakhar captured it, Joel lost into thoughts and after a few minutes of thinking, he simply resigned the game.
Game - 2: Prakhar vs. Joel

Prakhar Gupta moved within touching distance of the COB Revival title by defeating Joel Dsouza in Game 2 of the final, extending his lead after already winning the opening game. Playing White, Prakhar navigated a balanced Caro-Kann structure before seizing the initiative with the tactical sequence 24.Nxg6 and 25.Nxf8, emerging with a material advantage. Although Joel generated counterplay with an active kingside attack and both players found themselves short on time, Prakhar maintained control, steadily increased the pressure, and exposed the black king. A series of precise checks and threats culminated in 41.Re7+, after which Joel resigned. With back-to-back victories, Prakhar took a commanding position in the championship match and left himself just one step away from becoming the COB Revival Champion.
Game - 3: Joel vs. Prakhar

Facing a must-win situation after dropping the first two games of the final, Joel Dsouza produced a resilient comeback to keep his COB Revival title hopes alive. The game followed a familiar pattern, with Prakhar Gupta gaining two extra pawns but blundering a Night, giving Joel a ray of hope. Joel resourcefully and gradually turned the tables. After simplifying into a bishop-versus-pawn ending, Joel's active king and advanced h-pawn became decisive. Despite Prakhar's determined resistance, Joel converted his advantage after more than 70 moves, securing a crucial victory and cutting the deficit to force the final into a dramatic fourth game.
Game - 4: Prakhar vs. Joel
With his back against the wall once again, Joel Dsouza delivered a second consecutive must-win performance to complete a remarkable comeback and force the COB Revival Final into Armageddon. Trailing 0-2 in the match, Prakhar got an early initiative. Joel was resourceful enough to find 21...Bh6 which eventually made Prakhar find a safe escape for his knights. But Prakhar blundered with 22. a3 and Joel just took a few seconds to take on a3, grabbing a free pawn as bxa3 leads to Re8 followed by fxe6, winning a piece. Prakhar and Joel both made errors and blunders and kept the evaluation bar and people watching Online and in the Habitat, busy throughout the endgame. In the end, Prakhar simply blundered a Rook and Joel grabbed this golden chance to level the Score and make it to an Armageddon.
The Armageddon:
Joel opened with the bird's opening 1.f4 and the game was close to equal until early middlegame, but Prakhar got a pawn in the middlegame, and Joel infiltrated his queen with 26.Qf6 poses practical problems to Prakhar with a potential attack on his king with 27.f5. Prakhar blundered with 28...Qxb4 missing fxg6, but Joel did not find it & played Qe7, Prakhar once again blundered with 29...Qb2. Joel just had to capture the pawn on g6, after which he would have easily won the game, but he also blundered with 30.f6, hoping to deliver back rank mate & he missed that Prakhar could give a check and come back with his queen to save the checkmate. Prakhar found that accurate defence & after that found an incredible Rook sacrifice with 39....Rxh3+ to force a threefold repetition and drew the game & won the match & also the precious title of Comedians over the board - "Revival".
With this win, Prakhar won a cash prize of Rs. 6,00,000/- & Joel won a cash prize of Rs. 4,00,000/-.
