Luis Ernesto dominates Prague Open 2020, Laxman finishes strong

Top seed GM Luis Ernesto Quesada Perez scored an emphatic 8.5/9 and finished 1.5 points ahead of the field to win Prague Open 2020. He also won the Rapid event with a score of 6.0/7. Both IM Zhen Yu Cyrus Low and untitled Oled Budnikov scored 7.0/9 each and they shared the second position. Among the Indians, GM Laxman R R was the highest placed Indian as he scored 6.5/9 and finished at shared fourth position. In the Blitz event Laxman scored 8.5/11 to secure third position. Top seed reigns supreme, Laxman finishes shared fourth

Top seed of the tournament GM Luis Ernesto Quesada Perez (CUB, 2491) scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 and finished 1.5 point ahead of the competition to win Prague Open 2020. He received a trophy and 15000 CZK as cash prize. Both IM Zhen Yu Cyrus Low (SGP, 2415) and untitled Oleg Budnikov (UKR, 2432) finished at 7.0/9 each and they shared the second position. Among the Indians, GM Laxman R R (2441) was the best placed Indian at shared fourth place with a score of 6.5/9

Quesada Perez performed at 2741, scored an impressive eight straight wins and won the tournament with a round to spare

The most notable victory by the eventual champion Quesada Perez was against IM Milos Stankovic (SRB, 2466) in round 6.

The best performing Indian at the tournament, Laxman scored a fine victory with a correct display of technique in the double rook endgame to score the full point in round 7 against Vojtech Riha (CZE, 2247). Laxman finished third in the blitz event with a score of 8.5/11.

12-year old Dhruv Khosla scored 7.0/9, gained 177 Elo rating points and finished at third position in the 'B' group.

14-year old Anya Seth Syed was the highest gainer in the category as she gained a massive 215 Elo rating points with a score of 6.5/9. She finished at shared fifth, sixth according to tie-breaks.

Prague Open 2020 witnessed the participation of 434 players from 36 countries across the world including 7 GMs, 7 IMs, a WGM and 3 WIMs at Olympik Hotel, Prague, Czech Republic from 10th to 17th January 2020. The tournament was organized by AVE-KONTAKT s.r.o.
