Jubin Jimmy becomes the latest International Master of India

16-year-old FM Jubin Jimmy became the latest International Master of India on 1st December 2022. The Keralite scored his final IM-norm Vezerkepzo GM 12 November 2022, three months after he scored his second IM-norm at 28th Abu Dhabi Masters 2022 in August. In the sixth round of Six Days at Budapest Round Robin tournament, Jubin defeated GM Adam Horvath at the beginning of this month to cross 2400 in the live ratings. His current live rating is now 2411.8. Two IM-norms and 2400+ in 3.5 months

Jubin Jimmy scored his first IM-norm at 12th Chennai GM Open 2020. However, he scored his second and third norms, crossed 2400 in the live ratings in the span of a little over three months between August and December 2022. The teenager has managed to achieve this without having a permanent trainer. He is surely poised to become the fourth GM from Kerala. His quest towards the GM title continues at Chessable Sunway Sitges Open, starting from Monday 12th December 2022.

First IM-norm: Chennai Open 2022

FM Jubin Jimmy scored his first IM-norm at 12th Chennai GM Open in January 2020. He defeated GM Stupak Kirill (BLR), GM Rodrigo Vasquez Schroeder (CHI), IM Sayantan Das, IM Denis Eraschenkov (RUS), drew with GM Valeriy Neverov (UKR), IM Viani Antonio Dcunha and IM Harikrishnan A Ra.

Jubin scored his second IM-norm at 28th Abu Dhabi Masters 2022 in Abu Dhabi, UAE. He scored 5/9 including wins over IM Julien Song (FRA) and IM Husain Aziz (QAT), draws with GM Temur Kuybokarov (AUS), IM Nubairshah Shaikh, IM Siddharth Jagadeesh (SGP) and IM Nitish Belurkar.

Jubin showed a great understanding of the endgame. He offered the exchange of rooks at the right time. The resultant minor piece endgame after 26.Rc1 Rxc1+ 27.Nbxc1 is certainly winning for White and he converted his advantage into a full point comfortably.

Jubin scored 5/9, performed at 2498 and gained 55.2 Elo rating points at 28th Abu Dhabi Masters 2022

Three months after scoring his second IM-norm, Jubin scored his final IM-norm at Vezerkepzo GM 12 November 2022 in Budapest, Hungary. He scored 6/11 including wins over GM Valeriy Neverov (UKR), IM Edward Song (USA) and IM Nitish Belurkar, draws with GM Zoltan Varga (HUN), GM Tamas Fodor Jr. (HUN) and IM Prraneeth Vuppala.

Despite being behind a pawn, Black's well-placed knight at e4 gave him enough compensation. A bit of inaccurate play by White, allowed Black to win the game with precise moves.

Live rating 2400+ : Six Days Budapest November 2022 GM

FM Jubin Jimmy crossed 2400 in the live ratings when he beat GM Adam Horvath in the sixth round of Six Days Budapest November 2022 GM. His live rating became 2403.8. He scored 5/9 and gained 35.8 Elo rating points in total, taking his live rating to 2411.8.
