Harsh Suresh prevails at 18th Paracin Open 2025, Srihari L second and Vignesh N R third
IM Harsh Suresh scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win 18th Paracin International Chess Festival Open A (>2100) 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. IM Srihari L scored 7/9 to secure second place. GM Vignesh N R, IM Arif Abdul Hafiz (INA) and GM Nikita Matinian scored 6.5/9 each. They secured third, fourth and fifth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund in Open A was RSD 1170000 (≈ €10000). The top three prizes were RSD 300000, 200000 and 160000 along with a trophy each respectively. Vignesh won the Blitz Rating event scoring an unbeaten 10/11. Paracin International Chess Festival was a successful festival for the Indians. In the Open A, the entire podium was claimed by Indians. FM Ajay Mushini scored 6/9, finished eighth and also earned his final IM-norm to become one of the latest IMs of India. WFM Kalyani Sirin was the top female finisher. She scored 6/9, claimed 12th place and gained 42.5 Elo rating points. GM Vignesh N R won the Blitz Rating Open event. The only other top ten finisher was Kalyani. She scored 7.5/11 to be placed tenth. The total prize fund in Blitz was RSD 100000. Midilesh Ms scored 7/9 to finish third in Open B (≤2100). The total prize fund in Open B was RSD 330000. The top three prizes were RSD 60000, 50000 and 40000.
Ajay Mushini earned his final IM-norm at this event to become one of the latest International Master of India.
A total of 83 players including 7 GMs, 7 IMs and a WIM took part from 23 countries across the world. The nine-day nine-round Swiss league Rating Open A (>2100) tournament was organized by FM FT IA IO Sasa Jevtic at Pool 'Prestige' in Paracin, Serbia from 4th to 12th July 2025. The time control for the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
