Bharat Kumar Reddy Poluri victorious at 1st Marvel Rating Open 2023

Bharat Kumar Reddy Poluri scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 1st Marvel Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Six players - GM Saptarshi RoyChowdhury, Kartavya Anadkat, Naitik R Mehta, Suresh Duvvala, Badrinath S and Vigneshwaran S scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to seventh respectively according to tie-breaks. Bharat drew against the eventual second runner-up, Kartavya. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹600000. Bharat Kumar Reddy Poluri was the sole leader 7.5/8 heading into the final round. He drew against Badrinath S to become the champion. GM Saptarshi RoyChowdhury and Kartavya Anadkat shared the point against Suresh Duvvala and Naitik R Mehta respectively to finish second and third.

A total of 285 players including a GM took part from various states across the country and one from Canada and Kenya each in the Rating Open tournament. The five-day nine round Rating tournament was organized by B Rajashekar at Puchalapalli Leela Sundaraiah Function Hall, Pragathinagar in Hyderabad, Telangana from 23rd to 27th December 2023. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
