8th Sunway Sitges Open R6: Abdusattorov and Kollars are the new leaders

Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) ended Sethuraman's unbeaten run as he defeated the tournament leader in the sixth round of 8th Sunway Sitges Open 2021 Group A. Abdusattorov is joined by Dmitrij Kollars (GER) in the lead 5.5/6. They will face each other in the seventh round. Sethuraman and Abhimanyu Puranik are just a half point behind them at 5.0/6 each. Eight Indian players are at 4.5/6. They are - GM Nihal Sarin, GM Arjun Erigaisi, GM Harsha Bharathakoti, GM Neelotpal Das, IM Aditya Mittal, IM Pranesh M, WGM Mary Ann Gomes and untitled Sharan Rao who is having a phenomenal tournament so far. Sharan Rao beats his third consecutive IM

Sharan Rao and WIM Priyanka Nutakki are having a great tournament so far. While the former has beaten three consecutive IMs to move to 4.5/6, the latter defeated a GM and two IMs so far 4.0/6.

Abdusattorov - Sethuraman: 1-0

Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) is in terrific form as he made a fantastic exchange sacrifice to create an initiative by gaining a valuable pawn on the queenside.

Position after 15...Ne4

15...Ne4 is absolutely fine as Black is making a strong threat of Nd2. However, the Uzbekistan no.2 made a beautiful positional exchange sacrifice 16.Rxc6 which has a very strong reasoning. 16...bxc6 17.Nxa7 Qa5 18.Nxc8 Nd2 19.Qd3 Nxf1 and now White delivers the difference maker 20.Qa6

20.Qa6 virtually forces the queen exchange as 20...Qd8 is not a good way to decline the exchange 21.Na7 and the knight munches one more crucial pawn. White might be down by an exchange after the queens are off the board, however, White's well coordinated pieces, along with an extra pawn on the queenside just does the job for White.

Neelotpal - Korobov: 0.5-0.5

Neelotpal Das made a great save against the top seed of the tournament, Anton Korobov (UKR) who also got into a tumultuous position in the final moments of the game.
