Velammal schools dominate both categories
Velammal Vidyalaya Paruthipattu won the Under-12 event with a round to spare when they defeated Silchar Collegiate School 0-4 in the penultimate round. In Under-18 event, Velammal MHSS Mogappair won against Don Bosco School, Silchar A Team 1.5-2.5 to become the champion. Velammal schools claimed five out of the six podium places combining both tournaments. Kalvi International Public School, Madurai is the only non-Velammal school to finish third in Under-18 event.
Aadik Theophane Lenin scored a perfect 9/9 for his team. Madhesh Kumar S and Sai Abhinav Kuchibhotla scored an impressive 8.5/9 each respectively.
FM Daakshin Arun is the top scorer of the team 8.5/9 on board no.4. IM Aswath S and Pranav K P scored 8/9 each.
The tournaments were inaugurated by Mr. K J Hilaly, Sports Secretary of Assam, Mr. Prodip Timung, Director of Sports, Mr. Mukuta Deka, Deputy Chairman GMDA, Mr. Kandarpa Kalita, President, All Assam Chess Association and Mr Rajib Dhar, Secretary, All Assam Chess Association.
A total of 114 players represented 27 teams in Under-12 and 139 players represented 33 teams in Under-18 category from various schools across the country in this three-day nine-round Swiss League Rating team tournament. The tournaments were organized by All Assam Chess Association at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Guwahati, Assam from 12th to 14th August 2024. The time control of the event was 45 minutes + 10 seconds increment from move no.1.
